Selling Parts and Accessories

Accessories Retail businesses need at least a resale permit or wholesale license AKA seller permit.


You also need a Accessories business tax registration license and a an assumed business name if you have a  retail business name.    


More than 31% of the GNP, though, less than $5,000,000.00 is generated through retail sales business.  


Though less than 2 million retail businesses, there is about 1.6 ml retail stores not including online retail.  

  

Note that if you hire retail employees, you will need an IRS EIN and a State EIN as well.

Even one person Accessories  retail business can set up a corporation or LLC.  Purposely, there are no specific items mentioned because selling parts or accessories requires the same licensing like any parts and accessories selling business. Selling parts and accessories is a part of trade itself.

    

How It All Started

   Trade started thousands of years ago as barter because there was no money invented yet. Then with the money and credit system as well as the global access through modern means of transportation, trade became prevalent across societies and countries.  Trade of parts and accessories exists because of specialization and the division of labor, skills and production. For example, a shoemaker only makes shoes but he buys clothing from the tailor or other retailer. What made trade explode was the Industrial Revolution that created new manufacturing processes from about 1760 to 1820 and 1840.



   Lately, the Internet, a revolutionary invention of 1965, has changed our world with thousands of networks typically interconnected by fiber optic cabling.



Where is the Trade of Parts and Accessories Now

   There is nothing new about buying items wholesale at a low price and selling them at a higher price. This is being the case since thousands of years ago. Today, selling parts and accessories has exploded because of the wide use of the internet as a media of getting access to buyers in venues such as personal websites, Amazon, eBay, Etsy, etc.



Where to Find Parts and Accessories to Buy the Wholesale at a Low Price

   Thanks to the global explosion of trade, you can now buy your parts and accessories wholesale from as far as China and South Korea, eBay, e-commerce websites, online classifieds, and online store. Likewise, you can buy the in the global market but you an also sell them at the same market. Of course, shipping is expensive but with a little creativity, you can figure out how to bulk the shipping so you can save in shipping costs. 



The Right Move at The Right Time

   With changing players in the global markets and jobs disappearing in the west lost to developing countries in the east, it is a very good idea to go alone and create your parts and accessories selling whether wholesale or retail. It is not costly and, to the contrary, very lucrative.

If you want to buy any taxable merchandise such as Parts And Accessories Resale  at wholesale prices to make Parts And Accessories Resale to re-sell, or to buy Parts And Accessories to resell them, then you need state sellers permit or sales tax license also called a resale license.



States Require A Sellers Permit

You can choose to be a(n) Handmade Costume Millinery And Accessories :

  • LLC,
  • Corporation or
  • Partnership.
    After you decide and select your business entity, you need licensing.

You will need to file a fictitious business name for that name.

In CA you need a resale ID ( AKA seller's permit) if you selling touchable items.  (A.K.A state id, wholesale, resale, reseller certificate, about $39 for most states).

Note: All businesses need a federal tax ID number except sole proprietors that are not employers and are not independent contractors.
An independent contractor is a self employed business person that receives more than $600 per year from anyone of his or her clients.
IRS rule: The client must issue a 1099 form to the independent contractor and the independent contractor must have a federal tax ID. However, even sole owners may obtain a federal ID and use it as a business tax ID instead of using their own social security number as a business tax ID number.
However, all other licenses that apply to sole proprietors as discussed here are requited regardless of getting a federal tax ID number.


In addition you will need a federal and a state EIN if you will hire employees. I.e., a CA Federal Tax Id Number ($29)  and a(n) CA  State Employer Tax Number  


Instead of filing a fictitious business name DBA Filing (about $49 plus state and legal newspaper publication fees) in Marina Del Rey, Incorporate in CA  or form a(n) CA LLC
. 

You have a choice to file a DBA or form an LLC or incorporate. If you will do business under your first and last legal name you will not need to get a fictitious business name.
Also note that even using your first and last name may not help you avoid filing a DBA if the name has a suffix such as "& sons" etc.



If you do form an Retail Trade llc or incorporate (about $49 plus state fees for most states) your Handmade Costume Millinery And Accessories business instead of just filing a fictitious business name (dba), that insurs that you don't have personal liability for debts and civile liabililty arising from your business dealings and you will not have to record the Marina Del Rey business name.
